Why use Full Truck Loads?
Full Truck Loads are the most economical way to ship freight. Maximizing a full truck load verse sending shipments on less than truck load (LTL Shipments) can save a lot of time in transit because there is only the one destination for the shipment. This also greatly reduces the chances that the freight will be damaged along the way because there are no other shippers on the truck with yours.
How are Full Truck Loads priced?
Full Truck Loads are usually priced per mile of the trip. Depending on the number of available trucks at the pick up point and the likelihood of the truck finding a new load once the other is delivered are the general factors that drive the price. For some companies that have a large number of loads each day or week it would be make sense to contract with a 3PL or trucking company to get a fixed rate or contracted rate for a set period of time. This is generally negotiated on a an annual basis and with some flexibility accounting for the fluctuations in the prices of fuel that may occur.
